Common Questions

How does receipt scanning work?

Take a photo of any grocery receipt. Our system uses OCR (optical character recognition) to extract text, then AI to identify every item, price, and store. Most receipts process in under 5 seconds.

Is my data safe?

Yes. Your spending data is tied to your Google account and only visible to you. AI extraction is stateless, your receipts are not used to train any models. You can export or delete all your data at any time from the app.

How does cross-store price comparison work?

Every time you scan a receipt, BiteSpend logs item prices by store. After shopping at 2-3 different stores, the app can tell you things like "eggs are $1.30 cheaper at Costco vs Ralphs." It's built entirely from your own purchase history, no external databases or crowdsourced data.

What does it cost?

Free to start with 5 receipt scans per month. That's enough for most weekly grocery shoppers. A Pro plan with unlimited scans and advanced insights is coming soon.

What platforms do you support?

Android first. iOS is coming soon. The app works with any grocery store receipt, Costco, Walmart, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Target, local stores, and more.

Do I need to enter items manually?

No. The AI extracts every line item from your receipt automatically. You can review and edit before saving, but most of the time it's scan and done.
