BiteSpend is built by Gorkhabots LLC and lives at https://bitespend.com. The free tier is fully functional. The Pro tier ($4.99/mo or $39/yr) adds cross-store price alerts, full history, CSV export, and (coming in the v1.2 Insights release) the "Ask BiteSpend" chat panel for conversational queries over your full spending history.

The product exists because bank-feed budgeting apps like Mint, YNAB, and Rocket Money can only see merchant plus total. They cannot see line items inside a receipt. BiteSpend reads the receipt itself, so you finally know what is actually inside your $87 at Target or $94 at Cheesecake Factory.

## Core Concepts

- **Personal Food Inflation**: Each household has its own grocery basket inflation rate, which is almost always different from the national CPI. BiteSpend computes this from your scan history and surfaces it back to you. National CPI may be up 3%; your basket may be up 12%. The aggregate hides the personal.
- **Cross-store price map**: Per-item price history across every store you shop at, built from your own receipts over time. The store that is cheapest on average may not be cheapest for your basket.
- **Item canonicalization**: Receipt vendors abbreviate item names differently across stores. "ORG EGG L 12" at Sprouts and "EGG ORGNC LRG DZN" at Trader Joe's collapse into the same canonical product so price comparison works correctly.
- **Receipt-led data, not bank-fed data**: BiteSpend does not link to your bank or credit cards. The data source is the receipt itself, parsed by AI. This is the only place line-item detail exists in a machine-readable form.

## Privacy and Data Practices

- No bank linking. Receipts only.
- No advertising trackers on the mobile app.
- Receipt images stored on Cloudflare R2 only as long as needed for processing.
- Users can export or delete their entire data set at any time from within the app.
- Google Analytics on the landing site only.
